Links in PDF to other PDF files work in Firefox but not in IE 8

Our clients want a CD that opens up an html page with links to various files on the CD. One of the links is to a PDF that is a list of links to other pdfs. Those other pdfs are in the same directory and they are supposed to open in a new window.

In Firefox, everything works just fine. It asks for permission to open the new file and then it does it. In IE 8 and Vista, it asks if it's okay to open a new file, and then NOTHING happens.

We did this same project last year and everything worked fine in both Firefox and IE (but that was 7). Now, even the PDF on last year's CD doesn't work in IE8.

We are using Acrobat 9.2.0.

Our deadline is approaching. Any suggestions for a fix or a work around would be much appreciated! Workarounds, however, can't involve much end-user technical expertise - like just telling them to install Firefox won't work.

Thank you.

I'm afraid I don't have much help on you problem but I would like to know how to set up a PDF with links to other documents to open up the other documents in a NEW window when viewing PDFs in the browser.
