Our law firm will be outsourcing a large scanning project (20,000 color pages). The outsourcing firm wants to scan all of these pages into one pdf file, rather than naming each file (two pages each) separately. We need to produce this document to opposing counsel on DVD. We are concerned about problems that might arise with a document of this size. What is the maximum file size that you recommend for one pdf document? Thank you.

Once you receive the scanned PDF, run the PDF Optimizer to help reduce the file size and use the Save As option instead of Save.

There is no limit on the size of a PDF as long as you have enough storage space on your hard drive.

If it will be stored on CD, it must be within the capacity of the CD. You could zip the PDF to help further reduce its size.

You could also create an popup menu linked to specific sections. Several tutorials on creating menus are in the Tutorial section on this page.

Also consider using the Bates numbering system in Acrobat 8.0. Bates numbering is a method of indexing legal documents for easy identification and retrieval. Each page of each document is assigned a unique Bates number that also indicates its relationship to other Bates-numbered documents. Bates numbers appear as headers or footers on the pages of each PDF in the batch.
