I posted the following at 7:33:03 this morning in the General Forum.

My post has disappeared. What happened to it?

===============

I have used acrobat 4.0 with office 2003 on XP platform for years. I just converted to Windows 7 and Acrobat 9 - still using Office 2003. Everything works the same, with one exception:

When I attempt to convert a portion of an Excel file to pdf, the PDF writer forces a save of the Excel file.

Is there any way to turn this off?

No, you can't turn that off - My advice would be to save the Excel file to a different file name if you don't want to save the original.

It's not a matter of wanting to save the original - it's just time consuming to save a template unnecessarily.

I use acrobat to create price lists from a master file. I select the items from the master and then copy into a template. I then produce the pdf and go to the next list. Saving the (very large Excel) template is unnecessary.

This was not the case in acrobat 4.0. Is there some technical reason that acrobat forces a save of the file?

Yes - people were losing data.

Then, Adobe should determine the cause of the lost date and fix the problem. Plus give an option allowing this forced save to be turned off!
