Navigation Pane acting up

Hi

I'm running Acrobat 8 Pro on a Windows XP workstation, scanning directly into Acrobat from a Kodak i640 scanner (which I despise, but that is another story). Last week everything was fine. Today upon opening a document for Optimizing and OCR processing, the Navigation Pane had disappeared. I opened Pages through the top menu, yet could not open the Pages Nav item itself. Only when I dragged Pages over the PDF did it open. As a floater, obscuring part of the PDF. When I closed Acrobat and reopened it, all but the top menu bar and all the Nav panes had disappeared again.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

You might try to create a new user account with administrative privileges, and then log into Windows using the new account. It's possible that your preferences are corrupt.

Or, Perhaps you can try re-creating the Preferences folder. There is a suggestion for doing this at:
