I'm pretty far along in creating an interactive service order form in Acrobat, but I wonder if I'm using the proper tools and as they were intended.

There's no mistaking what the form field tool does, and no problem there. But in creating text labels above or adjacent to the fields, i.e. First Name, Last Name, etc; the text box tool seems the obvious choice, doing what it does, but most references to it in the how-to guide indicate that the tool is really for commenting and marking-up documents. Then, there's the Typewriter tool, which seems intended for my purpose, but it's limited to a single font. Then, when creating a new pdf, Acrobat clearly prefers to start with an existing document. I took that cue when I began and created much of my form in PS, but not all of the text came into Acrobat editable. So rather than researching why, I returned to scratch in Acrobat since the form only consists of a few blocks of color, a few text labels, and the fillable fields.

Knowing that there are usually a number of ways to achieve one result in Adobe software, which work flow is preferred by the pros?

And I promise to find a tutorial just as soon as I finish this project:-)

Thanks.

Generally; I create simple forms in Word, ...labels and lines....as through as you were creating a paper document. Save as or print to PDF. Then, in adobe, run Form Field Recognition, which will put text boxes on all of the lines. The labels you made in Word are the form field labels.

The form will need editing and fine tuning! There are many tuturials on this site; you'll save a lot of time by looking at them first!!

Hope this helps...

Acrobat is probably the program I use most often and I'm learning more every day.

Let me add a little more to this thread.

You are correct in assuming that you need to start with an application document converted to PDF. Just about any application will work. However, Photoshop would be my last choice for creating a form. If you do want to use Photoshop and retain the existing text, do not flatten layers. Keep the text on its original vector layer(s) and save as Photoshop PDF. The text will be recognized as text in Acrobat and won't be rasterized.

If you're an Adobe fan, then perhaps the very best PDF producer and an excellent tool for creating forms is Adobe InDesign.

What version of Acrobat Professional is needed for Form Field Recognition? I have 6.0.6. Also, will it automatically recognize Form fields created in Word?
