Hi everyone,

I've inserted an "open web link" action into the properties of a bookmark. This works as expected but I need it to open in a new browser window or tab. I wondered if this was possible and if yes how I'd go about it?

Appreciate any advice.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 9.4.3, Macintosh

GWH,

Yes, this can be done, with JavaScript in Acrobat. Ted Padova has an excellent article on this:

Sorry to come back to this post,

I noticed that the author in the post that you referred to mentioned another article by an author called Lori DeFurio. I wanted to read that post also as it may have further information on other topics I'd be interested in. Do you know how to search for this post?

GWH,

I believe this is Lori's article, that Ted is referring to:

Also, this article from The PDF Developer Junkie Blog is excellent and may help:

Hi,
I've been researching this for the past 4 hours with no luck. I'm trying to package multiple files together for viewing where the links open in a new Acrobat Reader window. They are not URL links, but links to the other files packaged in the one .pdf file. Is this possible???

I've read the blogs by Lori and Tad, and have posted on another forum with no answers. Even if someone could say it's not possible it would help me out.

If anyone has any suggestions on a different way to approach this project, it would also help out.

Thank you.

Kelly,
Thank you for that suggestion. As I understand it you need Adobe Professional for Portfolio's correct? I'll track down a user that has Professional and give it a shot. It will do "open link in new Reader window"?

K,

Yes, Acrobat Professional includes the ability to create PDF Portfolios. File > Create > PDF Portfolio. Every PDF file added to that Portfolio opens in it's own window automatically. You can also create a nice visual layout for these PDFs and add Descriptions. This article gives a great overview:

Kelly,
You've been very helpful so far. I tried a portfoliio and think it might work, but its not opening the links to the other files in a separate window - nor can I find how to make it do that. I'm also stuck on how to default the opening view to only one of the files in page view. We really don't want the users to even see the thumbnails for the other files. The audience on this one won't understand where to start if there are multiple file icons.

I'm using version 9.0 if that makes a difference.

Kendacott,

If you're up to the challenge you can program a lot in a PDF Portfolio to control the main screen, files & appearance. Here are 2 articles that may help:Creating Custom PDF Portfolio Layouts
