Open a file through a button

I have a created a button in Acrobat 9 that opens another pdf file. If I want to email the pdf with the button to another person, do I need to put the two pdf's, which are linked to each other, in a portfolio? When I attach a pdf to another pdf, both files are contained. However, I was trying to make more of an interactive pdf by using a button to open a file.

Is the "open a file" action geared more towards webpages or could it be used as part of an interactive pdf burned to a CD or sent via email.

You can put both files in a portfolio and then link them to one another. That way you only need to send out one file.
Otherwise you will need to zip up the files and the user can't change their relative locations, or the links will be broken.
