Good afternoon.
I am needing to understand the fundamental changes that the Acrobat 8 PDF Optimizer makes to target files.
Here's the scenario:
*My company produces software that imports PDF files and stores text in a DB
*One client's version 1.5 file fails to import into our software correctly
*The "optimized" file created by the Optimizer with all options disabled imports successfully.
This surprised me because I actually expected the Optimizer to tell me that there was nothing to
do and that I needed to at least select one option.
*In order for me to direct the client on what they need to do differently in their PDF creation
process, I need to understand what the Optimizer did when no options were selected.
Here are the Audit Space Usage results:
Before "Optimization"
*Bookmarks: 38 0.66%
*Content Streams: 3,897 67.19%
*Fonts: 334 5.76%
*Document Overhead: 1,171 20.19%
*Cross Reference Table: 360 6.21%
*Total: 5,800 100%
After No-Option Optimization
*Bookmarks: 38 0.36%
*Content Streams: 5,639 53.69%
*Fonts: 296 2.82%
*Document Overhead: 4,109 39.13%
*Cross Reference Table: 420 4.00%
Total: 10,502 100%
Any input is greatly appreciated.
A file created or saved (one time at least) using Acrobat 9 cannot be opened using Acrobat 5 or older version.
And the "PDF optimizer" correct that.
Then you can :
- ask your client to Optimize files before sending them
or
- upgrade your software…
