Page Shifting Automation

I have attempted to do page shifting on a file that will be created into a Perfect Bound Booklet. The file is setup with 1/8" bleed all around the document. The equipment this will be finished on is a 3 Knife trimmer. Since the spine will not be trimmed off, I am in need of shifting the odd pages 1/4" to the left and the even pages 1/4" to the right. This will then create a 3 edge bleed (Top, Side, Bottom) enabling the 3 knife to work properly.

I have been able to select the entire document using the Touch Up Object Tool. This however leaves some images behind and cannot select all objects. I have been able to use PitStop to get all images selected and allows for proper movement.

I am looking to see if there is a method to automate this process where odd pages shift left 1/4" and even pages shift right 1/4", since I am doing dozens of files every day. I am guessing that there is a script that could be built to make this happen, but I am very green when it comes to scripting. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Hi sorensq,

A free Acrobat Automation tool called Resize Pages Tool at pdfscripting.com can help you with this task. It will add a toolbar button to the Advanced toolbar in Acrobat Professional. When you click on the toolbar button you can resize any of the PDF page boxes for a specified page range by anchoring one edge or corner of the page. You can choose to do Even pages first, then do it again for Odd pages. Should save you a lot of time.

Hope this helps,

I have downloaded the Add On, however it is not showing up on my toolbar. I have gone into the more tools menu and it shows that it is selected. I am on Acrobat 9 Pro, not sure if that matters. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Thanks,

Hi sorensq,

It should work fine in Acrobat 9 Pro- I've used it in that version. So to be clear- you have gone to View ->Toolbars ->More Tools and checked the box for Add-on Tools toolbar, AND the Resize Pages is also listed under that category? If 'Resize Pages" is not listed under Ad-on Tools toolbar, then it has not been installed properly. There is no automated installer provided with that tool so you have to drop the JS file in the proper folder in Acrobat yourself. Did you follow the Instructions for Installling Acrobat Automation Tools

The icon for the toolbar is the same as shown on the pdfscripting.com web page you downloaded it from so that is what you should see on the Ad-Ons Toolbar.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

Never mind...It finally popped up. This tool works.

I make the files set from 9 x 12 to 9.25 x 12 and shift them accordingly from front and back registration and then crop down to the original size. This allows for the binding edge to have the bleed removed while still holding the size of 9 x 12.

PERFECT!

Thank You!
