pdf file size mis-reported in the gigabytes

Medical customer scans with Acrobat and Fujitsu scanner, using OCR and catalog. All is fine except one document of multiple pages can't be opened or printed because it reports as 4.something gigabytes when it really is probably 2-3 megabytes. Their shredding service has already picked up the originals and they are gone, gone, gone. Is there a way to extract the real file information, even just in text without formatting?
