PDF Open Parameter Only Works Once Per File

I'm only able to get the PDF Open Parameters to work one time per file in IE.

If I specify file.pdf#page=10, the file is opened to page 10. If I close IE, reopen, and then specify file.pdf#page=20, the file opens to page 10 again.

Deleting temporary internet files did not help. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Frank

Hi ftkc,

I only see this behavior when I change the page number in the location bar; however, opening a new window or shutting down IE works though. What OS, Browser, and version of Reader are you running?

Thanks,
Lori

Hi Lori,

Thanks for your response. I have tried this on multiple machines, but my main pc is Windows XP, IE7, Reader 7.0.9. A specific example is a navigation page which will launch a new window with a specific pdf pages:

http://www.murata.com/select/cap.html

Contains multiple links to their c02e.pdf:

Examples:
http://www.murata.com/catalog/c02e.pdf#page=54
http://www.murata.com/catalog/c02e.pdf#page=9

My steps:
1. I open the cap.html link and click the link for page 54
2. The pdf launches in a new window on page 54.
3. I close the pdf window
4. In fact, I close all browser windows
5. I reopen cap.html and click the link for page 9
6. The pdf launches in a new window, but still on page 54 instead of page 9
7. Even if I delete temp files, cookies, form data, etc. I continue to get page 54.

Eventually, whatever holds on to page 54 lets go, but I don't know when or why.

I would like to provide a similar interface on my web site, but I want to make sure I'm doing it correctly. Any light you can shed would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
FTKC

Hi FTKC,

I took a look at the website and I don't experience the behavior in Acrobat 8. After some research, it appears that this was a bug in version 7 that was corrected in version 8.

You might also try using Named Destinations instead of the page number as outlined in this technical note:
