I would like to find out how to convert a PDF file to text that I can then edit using Acrobat Professional 6.0. I have tried save as and comes out as image and not text. Thanks.

My Product Information:

timersk,
If, after a "save as" the PDF is an image then the source PDF contained an image.
I believe that, with Acrobat 6 Professional, you can do OCR.
With Acrobat 7 Professional, Acrobat 8 Standard | Professional | 3D or Acrobat 9 Standard | Professional | Extended
you'd be able to OCR the text in the image.

Depending on various things OCR text may be very good or very bad.
Regardless, editing it in PDF or in another application after exporting the OCR can be
a time intensive activity.

Better to go to the source file to edit.
If that is not available, consider printing out the scanned image and using that to
rebuild the text in a word processor.

If I was able to attach the PDF file to this link, I would. The cover page is an image. Don't care about that. Pages 2-7 are mainly text in PDF. I would like to convert the PDF so I can edit and correct what is missing. I am looking for a step by step. Thanks for the effort. I really appreciate it, but the explanation provided, does not help. I found another link on the web which helped me find the solution. Here it is:

With your PDF file open in Acrobat 6 Professional, select Document > Paper Capture > Start Capture. Select the pages you want to edit. Press Edit button > select English or otherwise > Searchable Image (Exact) > leave downsample images as none > Ok > Ok. After this is complete, save as the original name. You now have a PDF file that you can search text.Go Edit > select all > Edit > Copy > Save as word format. You now have a word file that contains text. You will probably have to read through it now, make corrections etc and there you have it.

Tim,
Yes, once you have an OCR layer you can port that out.
This content, exported to Word, is typically "wrapped" by Word in descrete form fields
(which support positioning of text to give a semblence of layout/format).

Very awkward to work with but it can be done.
