For Acrobat 7, the uderlying PDF format used was version 1.6. Has this changed for Acrobat 8 and, if so, where can I get the specification for the new version?

Acrobat 8 includes PDF 1.7, however, your documents will only be "tagged" as such if you use the newer features.

The PDF Reference has been updated and is online in the usual spot.
