I have been getting the follow error below when trying to save in Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.1.2.

Error:

The document could not be saved. There was a problem reading this document(43).

Now this file is over 500mb's and contains over 11000pages.

We did experience an upgrade from Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional to 8. Would this cause issues with this file as well?

Any solution would be grateful.

Have you tried doing a File --> Save As instead of just File --> Save?

Yes we tried "Save As" and still got the same error message.

What program was used to author the PDF? Does the PDF contain any transparency?
Have you tried doing a Save As and then selecting Adobe PDF File, Optimized (*.pdf) from the Save As type menu? This brings up the PDF Optimizer prior to saving -- where you can adjust various settings (i.e., compatibility).

The PDF was originally created in Acrobat 7.x. We had an 8.1.2 update thats was pushed out over the weekend.

Just so you know you're not crazy, I have just experienced this error message and also can't save the PDF.
I just tried deleting all the elements on the page, and that didn't work.
There are no comments, signatures or attachments, but there are form fields.
I could open the PDF in Preview on Mac OS X fine, and it had no problem saving.
However Preview (at least version 3.0.9 from OS X 10.4.11) can fill out form fields but can't save them, so they all got converted to ordinary objects.
