When I open a PDF document in firefox browser and try to save it as a file by clicking on the 'save' icon in the reader toolbar it doesn't save and I cannot re-click the icon.
How can I solve this?

Use the browser command instead - File > Save Page As (or Ctrl+S). The Save button in Reader's interface only applies if the document has been changed within the session, for example by commenting or entering form data.
