Problem sending PDF documents to other people

Hello,

I'm hoping that someone has seen this before and might be able to shed some light.

I have Acrobat Pro 9 Extended version and run it on Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit. I've had several problems with sending pdf documents via email attachment (outlook 2007 on my machine) or file transfer (via messenger programs) to several people who use various OS's and various versions of Acrobat Reader. Their systems are either XP or Vista Windows systems, none of which are 64-bit like mine. I've tried having them download and install the newest version of Acrobat Reader, to no avail.

The error message they get is "There was an error opening this document" and some get the "file cannot be found" message but most get the "corrupted file" message. I am always able to open the pdf documents on my computer without any issue. Some of the pdf documents have been created by me, while others were not created by me but were saved on my PC prior to attempting to forward the document to others. It does not happen with everybody to whom I send documents, but it is consistent with the same people. And, with these same people, sometimes they can open the documents, but not always.

Incidentally, I did an experiment where I was sent a pdf document as an email attachment and saved it to my computer. Then I created a new email and sent the document to one of these people. She could not open it. I then forwarded the email containing the document to her (without first saving it), and she was able to open it without problems.

The problem would appear to be on my computer somewhere since I am the source of these documents that won't open for others. I do regular virus scans with McAfee and download the newest virus definitions daily. I also scan weekly for spyware and malware. I've uninstalled and reinstalled my version of Acrobat several times but nothing seems to help.

I said above that I have a 64-bit Vista system. Could this be the problem? I don't know anybody else who has 64-bit Vista. I can't find anything referring to this specific problem anywhere online. I don't have issues with my 64-bit version of windows when it comes to other programs. As a matter of fact, I love it even though I was initially reluctant to try it.

I also download regular updates to my Acrobat software when they are available. I don't know why we are having this problem but I sure would like to get it solved. Can anyone help?

Thank you,
Penny

When a PDF is saved (one time) using Acrobat 9, it can't be opened with Reader/Acrobat 5 and older.

Then, be sure that your end-users uses Reader 6+

Are you running any antivirus software that scans your outgoing mail messages? If so, this could be the problem.
