Hi

I'm compiling an operations manual (originally from a combination of scanned images and word documents) for processes on units here in the place I work. I've read several posts in the forums here and also documents in resources/other locations on this (and adobe) website, but still cannot find an answer to exactly what I'm experiencing.

For the project I am working on, they would like me to make the final compiled pdf as user friendly as possible (incorporating bookmarked tabs & subtabs), and if possible, internal hyperlinks in the document). The automatic link creation feature (from heading levels, etc.) is not as accurate as I would like...however ignoring the automatic link creation issue, my question conerns manual creation of links.

The bookmarks and links are strictly used to navigate inside the pdf--not to call out any external resources. The bookmarks I have created work properly (in terms of going to the correct view in the document), however I am having problems getting the links to go to the correct view. Allow me to explain/provide some more background

When the user clicks either a bookmark or link, I want the adobe pdf to go to a view where the pertinent portion of the document appears at the top of the view (often in the middle or toward the bottom of a particular page). I am able to get the bookmarks to do this correctly (by setting the destination by selecting text at the top of the section I want to appear at the top).

However, the problem arises with the links, as I mentioned earlier. Sometimes, if the portion the the user wants to view is near the bottom of a page, the link will take them to the top of the next page. I have tried removing the goto page view element inside the link, and then manually re-adding it (using various methods)--with no avail. The only workaround I have been able to find is by scrolling up somewhat in the page view and setting that as the view destination. I have tried using various page view options, but ideally I would like the page view to go to a view that is user friendly (either fit width or fit visible).

I have my screen display set to either fit page width or fit visible (to where you scroll down you see the line inbetween pages).

Any ideas/help?

Thanks in advance

edit: I am using adobe 8 standard (with all updates) using windows xp sp2

One can set the zoom size from the "Properties" "Action" tab of the bookmark context menu for the "Use Page Number" option or one could use JavaScript to goto the page number or destination and set the zoom factor and zoom type.

What I meant was that if I use those zoom options, the links do not go to the correct view. The bookmarks are fine, it's just the links will go to the start of the next page if the section I want it to go to is right near the bottom of the one page--no matter what I've tried. The only way I've been able to trick it into going to the right location is by setting it to zoom way in (lik 250%) and then setting the view, but that defeats the purpose of having it zoom to a "nice" zoom initially. I've tried all sorts of different options in page view & zoom type, nothing seems to work properly

It sounds like you have something other than the "single" page view set. It is known that the continuous page displays do not always work. Also if you are using JavaScript, the page numering starts at zero for the first page.

Yes I'm using continuous :-/

No not using JS for this. If I were to use single page view, would it still be able to have only part of the page displayed (so the section it's linking to displays at the top)? I would really prefer to have continuous, as that's what would make it more readable
