Hello,

I have notice that in acrobat 8 one have the possibility to reader extend pdf files.

So, if one create a pdf file with livecycle designer, save it as a pdf form and then reader extend it, users will be able to sign and to save pdf files using acrobat reader.

But, is there any licence restriction to this? Viewing the acrobat documentation it is says that:

These extended privileges are limited to the current PDF. When you create a different PDF form, you must perform this task again if you want to enable Reader users to save their own filled-in copies of that PDF."

So it seems there are no restrictions, however, when they say "limited to the current PDF" this is not an objective affirmation, because, a pdf we can use a pdf file as a template... and so all the instance of that template will be reader enabled.

What do you think about it?

Thank you.

Hi fursten,

Actually, if you read the Acrobat 8 Pro EULA on Extended Forms Rights there are definitely some restrictions. Below is an excerpt from the EULA on this issue-

"14.13.3 For any unique Extended Document, you may only either (a) Deploy such Extended Document to an unlimited number of unique recipients but shall not extract information from more than five hundred (500) unique instances of such Extended Document or any hardcopy representation of such Extended Document containing filled form fields; or (b) Deploy such Extended Document to no more than five hundred (500) unique recipients without limits on the number of times you may extract information from such Extended Document returned to you filled-in by such Recipients. Notwithstanding anything herein to the contrary, obtaining additional licenses to use Acrobat Professional shall not increase the foregoing limits (that is, the foregoing limits are the aggregate total limits regardless of how many additional licenses to use Acrobat Professional you may have obtained)."

Another AUC member asked what determines a "unique" PDF i.e., if you re-create a form or make a minor change/revision is it a "new" form with a new limit on fill and saves? No one responded as yet, and I am not clear as to the answer for that.

Hope that helps,
