save button grayed out

I am using Acrobat 8.1.2 and while the save button shows up on the toolbar it is grayed out and cannot be used. How do I fix that?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8.1.2, Windows

Have you changed anything? It doesn't activate until the file is changed. Also, sometimes if I have made a change to Doc Properties (how it opens, for example), I still have to force a change elsewhere to get the Save feature; usually I'll just add a bookmark and then delete it (clunky, but...).

No, I have not changed anything. That seems pretty stupid that you cannot use the save button until you change something. If I open a PDF document from an e-mail I should be able to just click on the save icon. I guess not.
