Set default PDF size. Permanently Hide Navigation Pane Buttons

Having upgraded from Acrobat 9 to Acrobat X Pro please assist me with the following two questions:
1. How can I setup Acrobat X Pro to by default produce PDFs that are smaller files? Currently when I print a webpage using the print command in the file menu the resulting PDF is a big file e.g. typically 2-3mb. I'm aware one can reduce the PDF size via the Save as option but can I not set the software to automatically produce a smaller file?
2. Is there a default setting so I can ensure that the “Hide Navigation Pane Buttons” are hidden by default?
Thanks very much
Kind regards
Darryl

1. If you're printing from another application, you will be using Adobe Distiller to create the PDF file. Distiller has a range of presets for varying quality and compliance to standards, but you can edit any of them to change the compression of images, etc. as you desire, and whichever preset you've selected last will be the default for the next print operation.

2. No, there isn't. The navigation pane will always appear the next time you open a document, even if you've hidden it previously. It's intentional, as the pane will often contain important information about the document which isn't displayed elsewhere on the UI.

When I drop down the File menu or press CTRL P the only option available is to print to Adobe PDF and there's no mention of Distiller. Where will I find the Distiller option?
Thanks

In the print dialog there is a drop down menu for selecting the desired printer driver.
.
Select the Adobe printer. There is a button available to get to the printer's Properties.
.
Use it to get to the configuration dialog of the Adobe printer. This dialog gives access to the selected (typically the default) Distiller Job option.
.
Locate and tick the view all option. This will display all job options. Browse these. Edit one and save it to create what you want.
.
Use it as the selected job option for the Adobe printer.
.

Be well...

Hello
I've followed your instructions and created an instruction set but I don't know how to :"Use it as the selected job option for the Adobe printer." and as a result it keeps on defaulting back to the Standard settings.
Please assist me?
Thanks

ADOBE & YOU IF YOU WORK FOR THEM WILL REGRET THIS:
NAVIGATION BAR [LeftsideBar]: INABILITY TO PERMA-HIDE.
"... intentional, as the pane will often contain important information about the document" ===

STUPIDTY is ufrigging believable. I am even too lazy to explain how stupid the aforementioned assumption is - G00gle it yourself. You'll regret this LeftsideBar no longer complying with "HIDE" option (as was in Acriobat8) same way Google regretted playing w/customers when they briefly moved search results into screen's CENTER.
You've NOT A SLIGHTNEST IDEA what this Navigation ar inability to permahide does in biz. apps, such as programmatical controls, & for powerusers. I am personally fed up clicking/hiding it for every new doc open, + WE ARE ANNOYED BY SAVEAS-->as PDF taking an extra mouse/keyboard click now (usedtobe 2 clicks, now 3, thanks!).I am willing to either downgrade to Acrobat8 or drop Adobe completely - yes it is THAT important (NavBar not hiding permanently).
Maybe one day you research & see the global aggravation caused by this Bar.
AFAIC, it is now obvious some programmers sit on their A$$ entire year pondering "how can we annoy customers & generate more revenues by "improving" what used to work well? Simply by incrementing version# to "X" & adding lightbulbs hangign besides TV so customer gets distracted by the left & right sidebars. Also let's NOT allow customer to change Background/Canvas Color in Acrobat X. Nor let customer's AcrobatX to comply w/Windows ColorScheme [systemwide]. INSTEAD LETS FEED OUR CHOCIE OF FRIGGING SILVER COLOR INTO CUSTOMERS THROAT, WHEN OUR ACROBAT8 & BELOW, USED TO COMPLY WITH WINDOWS WHIC HIS BLACK BACKGROUND IN MY CASE. BLACK BACKGROUND, NOT SIKLVER, GET IT F00LS ??"

You can use JavaScript to force the Full Screen mode, no tool bars, no menu bar, no navigation information, just a full page.

Sorry but while thanks for this "Java trick", it's not a "terminal" solution.
Solution is for Adobe get back to drawing board and reinstate "permahide" functionality.
Quit this lame trend in America in recent years to placate, please home users with their primitive "pictures & music" games. WE PROFESSIONALS, WE WORK on computers and inability to hide annoyance which used to be "hideable", is another step towards mass degradation of software. I am referring to MS Office Ribbon cr*p as well, though not subject of this Forum - that Ribbon is enforcing only 3 available colorschems, 3 !! Not even bothering to comply w/user's Windows Color Scheme as was in older version, it just feeds its own into you, like it or not.
Same here - Adobe thinks LeftsideBar is crucial for security, how about a BAD DESIGN DECISION to disallow hiding it permanently?
Listen,
If I want a light bulb or dead mouse to distract me while watching TV, I will do it myself, no Adobe necessary. If i want to WORK< I need tio control workspapce as was in version8 and prior.
And let's stop with "FullScreen solutions", we akll know that and it's not a solution. It is avoidance to fix prioblem.

P.S. Did not run spellcheck - posted via mobiledevice (Motorola Atrix).

Try that link yourself, please.
You posted a link leading to:
http://https//www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform
Which is INVALID.

But that's fine, I know that link anyway, should be:
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&product=46
Of course you don't work for Adobe so no worries.
You're welcome
