New to this board and would appreciate it if someone can advise me on my problem

Someone sent me a PDF, when I went to open it, it just stated "Loading" and never went anywhere,
I have shortcut on desktop for Adobe Acrobat 5.0 and Adobe Reader 8.17
when I click on either one I get a message "can't be found" did a search and the files are every where, (on both programs), I checked in control panel/add remove and both of them are there, now I would like to remove them and start all over again,
1. If I remove them will they remove all the files also in the registry (as I will not touch the registry at all, as I do not understand it)
2. I only need adobe as a reader and to print info (if needed)
3. I do not know what happened that caused this problem.

Using..Windows xp sp3, (home edition)
Mozilla/Firefox 3.5.5

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 8.1.7, Windows

Adobe advises against mixing versions and products. This is done because there are shared files used by the products and these shared files can have different content, instructions, than a previous version or between Acrobat and Reader.

You could try repairing the products.

You my need to run a Microsoft installation cleaner or checking Adobe's knowledge base for instructions on how to fully remove one of the products, but this will require editing the Windows registry.
