Hey guys,

Great site you have here. Ive had a search but couldnt find what I was after. I need to be able to sort within a PDF file.

For example, lets say you have 1000 pages in a PDF. Each page containing a different persons information with their name and address included. Lets say you wanted to sort by that person postcode. Is this possible?

I cant seem to find a solution anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

Acrobat doesn't recompose information on a page so it's not possible to sort. You can export a PDF to a program like Excel that does this or copy to an Excel spreadsheet. Another possibility is if your information and names are within form fields, you can export the form data to a .CVS file and open in Excel.

I think that (s)he means they want to re-order entire pages in a PDF based on some text in those pages, which probably can be achieved using a script.

Good point. You can re-order entire pages based on content using a script.

With JavaScript is possible to sort a variable array of data, but the sort key can only reside in one column and you may need to write a comparison function for the order of the sort and the type (alphabetic, lexilogical, or numeric). So one could get the data sorted by zip code and page number of a file name. Now the problem is moving the pages around or extracting the pages by page and then merging them by sorted page number. I would look at extracting each page and then merging by the sorted page names. Moving pages within a PDF gets tricky as the change in page number is dynamic and one would need to repeat the sort after each page was moved.

This is my first time using this help option so please bear with me. I scanned documents into my system and because it was a 2-sided doc, it placed the pages into two separate files & I selected the pdf format. Now I have two files that I merged into one pdf document; however, I can't seem to find a way that I can resort the pages so the final file displays the pages in the correct sequence. Can you help?
Thanks

You need to open the 'Thumbnail' or 'Pages' navigation pane, 'View => Navigation Panels => Pages', you can then select the thumbnail of the page and drag and drop it to where you want that page located.
