Splitting Files In Acrobat Professional 6.0

I have a problem with a user who produces large reports (around 100 pages) then converts them to PDF Files.

The user extracting and deleting pages.

Usually he is extracting around 10-20 pages at a time and saving them into alternative folders/locations and this is when the problems occurs.

When he extracts/deletes them and attempts to save them the application crashes/goes on infinite egg timer.

The only way out of this is to use the Task Manager to kill off the application. After doing this the file does appear in the folder which he was trying to save it in, but this is a very time consuming way to perform this task and obviously shouldn't really do it anyway.

To try and rectify the issue I have firstly re-installaed the application and made sure that no other version of any other Adobe products exist on the machine.

I then installed additional memory to take the RAM up to 2Gb. Next I rebuilt the PC completely and finally I replaced the machine with a higher spec machine.

These all run WIndows XP with SP2. I have also elevated the users permissions on the machine to that of an Administrator to see if this made any difference.

All of the above have had no success, so I am now left scratching my head and would be very grateful if you could offer some suggestions if you have come across this issue in the past.

Many Thanks in advance,

Nicky.

Hi --

The problem isn't likely to do with the computers' capabilities, particularly since you have made so many upgrades!

Instead, I think it is related to how the user 'splits' the files. Could you provide some more information on how that is being done? In Acrobat 6 there isn't a tool to allow splitting per se. Instead, the user has to perform extractions/deletions.

Please post again, and I'll try to help.

Donna,

Thanks for getting back to me.

The user is indeed extracting and deleting pages, I should have been more clear.

Usually he is extracting around 10-20 pages at a time and saving them into alternative folders/locations and this is when the problems occurs.

Thanks again,

Nicky.
