I just installed Adobe 9.0 Standard and the text edit tool doesn't do anything and when I click on down arrow all the options are greyed out such as replace text selcted text and highlight selected text. What can I do to fix that?

Are you sure your pdf has text characters? Some pdfs contain text but as an image not as characters, like if the pdf was scanned for example, in that case you can not select it using the text edit tools. Therefore the tools are grayed out. One thing you can do in this case is run text recognition by going: Document > OCR text recognition.
Or if you receive the pdf from somebody else, they may have included some security settings that prevent you from copying, pasting and selecting any type of content. You can check that by File> properties, under the security tab. In the same properties window you can also check the fonts tab to see if there are any fonts embedded in the document. If the fonts are not listed under this tab, it means that the text you are seeing is an image not text.Hope that helps.
