You can just use the page view, which is pretty similar, although it doesn't dock in the same way the thumbnail view did. Just go to view/navigation panels/pages
Same issue on Mac with Acrobat 6 Pro. Click on the <> tab reveals nothing. I reloaded the application from the original disk and no change. I don't know when it stopped working however I've tried everything to access the thumbnails to no avail. Checked the Preferences, nothing there. Please advise.
I have the same problem - but have not yet found a solution. I do not see a thumbnail view of the pdf documents when in Windows Explorer.
The pdfshell.dll file controls the thumbnail view in Windows -- perhaps this dll file is not registered correctly. Sometimes running the "Repair Acrobat installation" command under the Help menu can address this.

No "pages" icon shows up on the left in my iMac's Acrobat Pro v.9, only layers and bookmark icons. How do I restore this very, very handy feature? Thanks.
Thanks, Tramble, I deleted the "com.adobe.Acrobat.Pro_x86_9.0.plist" and that one did the trick! Two other ".plist" for acrobat pro didn't change anything.
Displaying thumbnail view (page icon view) in Navigation Panel (Acrobat 9 Pro): Select "Pages" panel in Navigation Panels by icon or under View->Navigation Panels. If "Pages" panel is not visible on Navigation Panels, right click the column of space of the icons (or View->Navigation Panels) and select "Reset Panels." Pages panel will default to display at the top of the panel icons in the Navigation Panels.
Thumbnails of pages in a PDF open in Acrobat can be viewed by clicking on the Pages panel, found on the left side of the Acrobat application window.
Hope that helps,
Dimitri
