Hello all,

My problem is that when I create a pdf file from aplan created within MapInfo 9.5 using software called EasyPlot, I cannot edit the text within the pdf using the "Touchup Text" tool. We have recently installed Adobe Acrobat v9, prior to this we were on v6 and had no problems with editing, we now receive various warnings relating to rotated text, etc., because Adobe is selecting all text within the document, instead of just the actual line to be edited. Any ideas how we can get around this please? P.S. A text box doesn't fit the bill either, as it appears in red and does not appear to be editable with regard to colour and border style. Any answers gratefully received.

Acrobat Pro 9.2, Windows

Have you tried selecting the text using the Content Navigation pane instead of directly on the page?
Also, you can change the properties of a text box (Ctrl + e) on Windows.

Thanks for your reply,

I have tried your suggestion, but to no avail, still can't change the text box text colour, only the border colour appears to be editable, not the text colour. This is still a longwinded way of doing what was a very straightforward operation in Version 6, even if it did work. Thanks once again, but I'm still looking for asimple workaround, so any more suggestion would be most welcome.

Thanks,

starting with a text box with some text typed in it. on the 'text box properties' dialog you can adjust border style (inluding no border), border color and fill color. with the 'text box text properties' tool you can change font style, size, color and more. to activate the 'text box text properties' tool do this: highlight text (in the text box) with the select text tool (V) and hit ctrl+E.

Hi there,

I have tried your suggestion, but I am having trouble selecting the text within the textbox. Each time I try to select, it is only the box itself that is selected, and not the text within it. Also, when you refer to "V", what does that mean. Furthermore, when I select "Control-E", the only options are for the textbox and not the text. More help needed I'm afraid.

Cheers,

Reg.

The "V" refers to the 'single key accelerator' for the 'select text' tool. it's a handy way to activate any tool by hitting a key on keyboard. on help see "Preferences for viewing PDFs" (general preferences | basis tools). if you select 'Use Single Key Accelerators', V = activate 'select text' tool, R= active 'select object' tool, H = activate 'hand' tool and the "(V)" etc. will appear on the tool tip for the particular tool. In the context of this explanation, the reference to "V" reduces ambiguity regarding the tool under discussion.

Moving to substance, with the 'select text' tool (V) selected or the hand tool (H) selected -- but not the 'select object' tool (R) -- with the left mouse highlight (drag cursor across) all or any portion of the text in a text box and hit a ctrl+E . This activates the 'text box text properties' tool/dialog for the selected text. Proceed to adjust text attributes.

Hi Engineer,

I appreciate your frustration. I am always amazed when I upgrade an Adobe product only to discover things I used to do before no longer work as they did before.

I happen to have a Plug-in named Enfocus PitStop that I use to edit PDF files while in Acrobat. I am not here to say that you should buy it, but it provides me with robust and reliable PDF editing tools.

I know that the company line is always "PDF is an output format and not meant to edit" but I edit PDF files every single day.

If you email me the PDF file - michaelejahn [at] gmail [dot] com - I will create a screentoaster.com movie that shows me editing it with Acrobat 9 - and with Enfocus PitStop.Cheers,
