Upgrade To Acrobat X Std from 7 Pro ?

I have Acrobat 7 Professional and need to upgrade to version X to support my 64 bit Office 2010 applications. I would like to upgrade to Acrobat X Standard since I have no need for the professional features.

But, I am getting conflicting information from Adobe: their web site states that you need Acrobat 7 Standard to upgrade to Acrobat X Standard. I called the Acrobat customer service help line and the nice lady said that there is no problem with upgrading to X Standard from 7 Pro. She also said that there would be "no problem" getting a refund if the upgrade didn't work.

So, has anyone successfully upgraded from 7 Pro to X Standard? I don't want to spend the money until I have assurance that the upgrade will work.

Thanks ...

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 7.0, Windows

Acrobat X does NOT work with Office 2010 64-bit, so if that's your primary reason to upgrade, the point is somewhat redundant. Only 32-bit versions of Office are supported.

Thanks for the heads-up on Office 2010 64 bit. My root problem is the I can't even install Acrobat 7 pro on my 64 bit Windows 7 system. I don't even have a PDF printer. I can live without Acrobat being embedded in Office, but I do need to create and manipulate pdf files.

Maybe I should look at non-Adobe solutions, but I would rather stick with the real thing.

So, to repeat my question: can I upgrade my Pro 7 version to X Standard?

Thanks and best wishes,

It is my understanding that Acrobat X Standard will work with Windows 7 64 bit, but not Office 2010 64 bit. I believe the standard installation CD's for Office 2010 come with both the 32 bit and 64 bit version on the CDs.

Is it possible to uninstall Office 2010 64 bit version on your system, and then reinstall Office 2010 32 bit version?

Someone else may be able to verify this for you, but this is my understanding.

Ref upgrades, Customer Support is correct - Yes you can. See this table for confirmation:

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatpro/buying-guide.html

Ref Windows 7 x64, Acrobat X does fully support Windows 7. It's a 32-bit program but it installs and runs perfectly OK on 64-bit Windows, though as JF indicated to get the PDFMaker plugins in Office 2010 you'll have to uninstall you current copy and use the 32-bit version on the Office 2010 product discs. Microsoft still advises that customers stick to the 32-bit version of Office unless they have a specific need to work with very large files, and point out that almost nobody makes plugins for the 64-bit version yet.

OK, lets try this one more time. Here are the facts:

1. I currently have Acrobat 7 Pro

2. I want to upgrade to Acrobat X Standard.

3. All of the Adobe publications show that you can upgrade to X Standard only from 7 Standard (but I only have 7 pro).
See http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobatstandard/buying-guide.html

So, does anyone have hard evidence that you can upgrade to X Standard from 7 Pro?
