Version 8.1.1 Won't Create PDFs

Using Windows XP, Office 2003. Recently upgraded to Acrobat Professional 8.1.1 & can no longer create a PDF from the Word toolbar. The process seems to initiate, and Acrobat opens a blank window, but the PDF is not created.

If I try it from Acrobat with "Create PDF From File", again the process seems to initiate ("Converting to Adobe PDF, please wait..") but then I get the extremely unhelpful message: "PDF conversion process failed - please correct the error and retry".

All of this was perfectly functional with version 7, now I'm dead in the water.

Would be grateful for any suggestions.

Have you made sure that the PDFMaker macros have not been disabled by Word's security?

Could that be a concern? I changed Acrobat - I didn't change Word.

Yes, Word is seeing a new macro from Acarobat and with Microsoft's new found belief in security, the macro maybe blocked by Word from running.
