Is it possible to open reader version 4 files with reader version 8?

For many reasons it is not possible for us to roll back to an earlier version of reader, yet we have a problem where files are produced by an external comapny in version 4 and when opened in version 8 they appear blank.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I, and many others, would be curious as to *how* the Version 4 PDFs were created.

I have never heard of a PDF created by Acrobat 4 not opening in a newer version.

However, I have run into instances of files claiming to be PDFs, actually turned out to be some weird, malformed, varient that had a lot of problems. These were generally created by low budget tools and low budget libraries - even though the library was in a high-budget product.

The pdf producer is macro 4 columbus. I have been in touch with Macro 4 who are unable to give us support as the support contract is with Littlewoods who send us the files and not ourselves. They are contacting Littlewoods for them to contact us, but we have so far been unsucessful in contacting Littlewoods ourselves for support, so I don't hold out much hope on that. Do you know if the Macro 4 product should open in reader 8?
