Is set to "convert entire workbook" and application setting of "Add bookmarks to PDF" is turned on. Is there some other setting that could have gotten changed, as this has worked in the past.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 7.0.8, Windows

What technique are you using the create your PDF from Excel? The PDFMaker macro in Excel, printing to the Adobe PDF printer in Excel, or the Create PDF menu in Acrobat?

PDFMaker macro, but have tried the other two ways also. Nothing works.

Is your entire worksheet converted? Do any bookmarks appear?
If you use the Create PDF menu in Acrobat, you'll need to turn on the Bookmarks in the following preference: Edit --> Preferences --> Convert to PDF category
Select Microsoft Office Excel and check the "Add bookmarks to Adobe PDF file".

Don't print to the Adobe PDF printer if you want bookmarks because this technique never produces them.

Yes, the entire workbook is converted--no bookmarks appear at all. The preference for bookmarks is turned on. I've tried other Excel files with the same result--no bookmarks. The only reason I tried from the Print menu (knowing that it doesn't generate bookmarks) was that I couldn't think of anything else!

You might try a Repair under the Help menu to see if it corrects the install. Were you using the same version of Excel when you could see the bookmarks?

This is happening on multiple computers with multiple different Excel files. Tried the repair on 2 different workstations--didn't work. And yes, we were using Excel 2003 when the bookmarks did work.

Do you have "Create bookmarks" selected under the Change Conversion setting menu in Excel? How are you creating your PDF from Excel?

I open excel workbook(2007), go to save as, chose PDF or XPS, chose PDF as save as type, go to option, select entire workbook, click OK, the click publish and I have PDF files. On the left side i have all the PDF as thumbnails and they are numbered.

You'll need Acrobat and not just the Microsoft add-in for Excel to convert your worksheet names to PDF bookmarks.
