Adobe Reader 9 - Displaying Issue

Hi All,

Right now I am using Adobe Reader 9 to display on the web page. While displaying the dynamic contents, its displaying Vertically.

Note :
1 . The page I have designed with Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro.
2 . The page is portrait format.
3 . When I click the "Highlight Field Button" the text seems fine (i.e. Horizontally).
4 . I have to use this on the IE web browser.

I have written a javascript code to disable the "Highlight Field Button", it worked fine for me. But I think its not a permanent solution to this issue.

Could anybody tell me how to remove this "Highlight Field Button" from the Adobe Reader 9? (either by writing a script or by disabling from the Adobe Reader 9 features or any special things I need to consider)

If there is a problem understanding the issue then please let me know.

Thanks & Regards,
Pranabesh

Cannot be done. Acrobat does not provide any user level control over hiding/showing the highlight button.

Hi Thomp,

Do you have any other solution regarding this?
Do you think every time the user has to click the Highlighfield Button to make the text show horizontally?

Moreover why its working fine if the page is on landscape form and not on the Portrait?
Is there any specific thing I have to change in the Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro while designing the page?

Thanks

There is a JavaScript property for turning the form field hightlight on and off, app.runtimeHighlight[\b]. I assume you are already using this?

But, as for the orientation issue, it sounds like a bug in Acrobat 9. The highlighting and text orientation are not related. If one is affecting the other then something is very wrong.

I have to say that your explaination is not clear. You need to clearly state what the expected behavior is and then what is not working. You also need to tell us what kind of form this is, LiveCycle or AcroForm?

Hi Thomp,

Issue :

While displaying on the Adobe Reader 9, the texts showing in vertical manner in the text field.

Requirement :
It has to show in horizontal manner, like in simple way on the PDF document.

N.B:

1. I am using portrait view.
2. Its a AcroForm.

If its not clear then in next reply I will send a copy of image for that document.

Thanks & Regards

So is the text ever showing in the correct orientation? I believe that you said earlier that turning off the highlight shows the text in the correct (horizontal) orientation?

If this is correct, then it's definately a bug in Acrobat. Can you post the form somewhere? such as www.acrobat.com?

Until Adobe fixes this the only thing you can do is write a document level script to force highlighting off. And report this to Acrobat support.

Hi Thomp,

Yes you are right. When I turn off the Highlight button, the texts showing properly (Horizontal) orientation.

When I design the page in landscape manner, then the orientation is proper and vice verse.

I think its the bug in Adobe Reader 9.

Let me post the topic somewhere else too. :)

Thanks for the confirmation.

Appending to above discussions, below were the two images I am attaching with this post.

Image 1 : Its a portrait view of the form, where the text in the fields are showing properly (Horizontal Orientation.)

Image 2 : Its a landscape view of the form, where the text in the fields are showing properly (Vertical Orientation.)

Issue :

Why the texts are being transformed to vertical manner while showing on the landscape forms?

Note :
1 . The page I have designed with Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro in landscape orientation.
2 . When I click the "Highlight Field Button" the text seems fine (i.e. Horizontally).
3 . I using this form on the IE web browser.
4 . If I disable the "Highlight Field Button" the texts are back in their original orientation. But this is not a permanent solution to the above issue.

Could anybody tell me how to make the text visible in its original orientation i.e., Horizontally?

If there is a problem understanding the issue then please let me know.

Thanks & Regards,
Pranabesh
