I have a bunch of pdfs that don't have any security enabled and I want to do a batch that needs a password for saving and editing. Is there a way to do this?

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 8, Windows

Hi chellyc,

Yes, you can set a password on multiple documents using a Batch Process. Go to Advanced -> Batch Processing, select "Set Security to No Changes" and click the Edit Sequence button. Highlight the Security option in the right side panel and click the Edit button in the middle section of the dialog. In the new dialog that appears choose Change Settings and enter your password as well as any other security options available there you want. When you want to run the Batch Process go back to Advanced -> Batch Processing and this time choose Run A Sequence and follow the prompts, choosing the files you want to apply the password to.The complete Acrobat Help files (Help- Complete Acrobat Help)have details on Batch Processing that you should definitely read.

Hope that helps,

Hi Dimitri,
Do you know whether Acrobat 7 standard can do the same thing? If not, is there a free plug-in or something that I can download to batch output files that requires the same security settings?

Hi juliana [dot] wong [at] au [dot] lafarge [dot] com,No, Batch Processing is not available in Acrobat 7 Standard. I'm not aware of any free plugins for btach security but that doesn't necessarliy mean one doesn't exist. Try a Google search on a few different terms to see what comes up.

Hope this helps,
