I have to publish Financial Statements on a monthly basis. The front page will always be the same and I would like to know how to copy the links and reuse them on the next month. Is there a way to do this?
Thanks and happy holidays,
Barbi

You cannot copy links from one document to another with JavaScript, but you can use "Document > Replace Pages" in Acrobat to replace the old page contents with a page from a new PDF that you create. This will retain any links, fields, and other annotations that may be present.

You can use the "Select Object" tool to copy and paste links between documents. You could also just re-use the same first page by inserting it into the newly created financial statement and then deleting the previous first page (using page replacement won't work for copying the links). There is no good way to copy the links with JavaScript, but you could write a script to recreate the links.

What you are asking for is a custom automation script. If you are not a programmer or do not have any experience with Acrobat Scripting then this is not an easy task. There are several parts to creating the script and just about all of them are covered in the articles and tutorials on this site. For example, this article shows how to write a script that adds buttons to PDF, which is almost exactly the same thing you want to do.

http://acrobatusers.com/tutorials/2007/06/js_add_buttons_to_pdf

You can find much more detailed info on scripting at www.pdfscripting.com. But if you are not interested in learning how to script I would suggest you hire a consultant, or explore the other options discussed above. George had a great idea. Keep the PDF with the links around, and then just replace the pages with the new report when you need it.

hi,

I'm webdesigner from Belgium (where we talk two languages : french and dutch). Each 3 weeks I have to publish 2 catalogs (fr & nl) with many products. We make an interactive version of it with issuu. Now I'd like to add some links to the products of the pdf. My problem is that I have to do the same work for the 2 languages...First I tried the copy-paste option you suggerate, but :
- it don't paste the links in place...
- the language variable of the links have to be changed one by one from : .htm?language=fr to : .htm?language=nl for the dutch version.

this manually process takes me too much time, and I'd like to find an automisation of it..
is there a way to do this job automatically ?
could you help me please ?

thanks

da_na_ho : if you're using InDesign to create your catalogs you should use some of it's advanced features like "Texte conditionel" (Conditional text ?, I don't know the term used in an english InDesign version) or "Variables de texte" which let you automate these tasks.

So, about copy-pasting link/forms fields from one page/document to another:

- create a new dumb link/form field in the upper-left corner of the source page (or in any corner you like)
- select all
- copy
- select the "Select Object" tool first, then paste in the target page
- drag and drop all links/form fields until the dumb link/form field match to the upper-left corner
- deselect all
- delete the dumb link/form field
