Extend Features slows down loading time

When an enabled document is loaded, Reader has to verify that certain things in the PDF have not been altered before it activates the extended features. It uses digital signatures to do this. For a document that doesn't have usage rights applied, Reader does not take this additional step for obvious reasons. I suppose the time it takes could depend on a number of things, including the size of the file.

If you're asking about this because you want to know if there's anything you can do to speed it up, I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions.

Before enabling the extended features, use the "PDF Optimizer" or "Reduce File Size" and then perfom a "Save As.." to make the PDF as smalll as possible by removing old artifacts. If you are going to place this on a web server set the option for fast web view. And then enable the rights.

Thanks, I forgot to mention it's a Dymnamic XML form, so I can't optimize it.....

Did you ever find a solution to making your form load faster? I am having the same issue. It is taking around 20 seconds to load an XML form with Reader rights enabled and my users don't like that. It also takes a long time to use any of the buttons.

Thought I would update my own question for anyone else who may read it in the future. I found that the flowed subform that I had in the form was causing a huge slow down. It was taking about 23 seconds for the blank form to open after Reader rights had been enabled. And although other LCD flowed forms that I have are somewhat slower than Acrobat forms (about 6 seconds compared to 2 seconds), none were this slow.

So I removed the flowed subform part of the form and rebuilt it. Then after enabling reader rights, it opens in about 6 seconds.

Save the file as xdp and you find the following lines repeated thousands of times:

<?templateDesigner StyleID aped3?>This REALLY Slows down the form once it has Reader Rights enabled. Remove the erroneous lines frm the xdp, and the form speeds up a lot. My form went from 5 minutes to 2 seconds loading time
