We could show a "open dialog box" in the event of clicking a hyperlink using "Javascript".
 
Similarly is there any option to open the attached files using JavaScript?

Not really, however you can use a Button or Link Action to open an attachemnt. Use the "Go to page" action. When it asked you to select the destination, just open up the attachment and set it as the dest.
