JavaScript-specific training for Acrobat

We're pretty moderate-to-heavy users of Acrobat in the office, and Boss let us know he has some funds available for training if we want it. Anyone know or can point me in the direction of Adobe training courses/seminars specific to the use of the JavaScript API and doc security/permissions with Acrobat?

We already know the basics of PDFs, making forms, file conversion and modification, etc., so most of the Adobe training that I've found online would be of no interest until the very last few advanced modules. Just wondering if anyone offered something more specific and focused.

Thx,
paul

Hi tx_paul,

You may want to visit www.pdfscripting.com and take a look at the Acrobat and PDF JavaScript training resources available there. Disclosure: my company owns the site.

The Learning Center here at AUC also has a wealth of articles and tutorials on scripting for Acrobat and LiveCycle Designer PDF forms if you are new to this site. Just filter for JavaScript to get a list of the articles, and there are some good On-Demand e-seminars too.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri

There is free training content here and other sites and some books.

Thanks, but I was wondering if there was anything more formal, instructional, or class-oriented. If some sort of certification is offered in this area, all the better.

Finding content online is pretty easy and abundant. However, it would be good to get out of the office (especially if Boss is willing to pay for it).

Hi tx_paul,

In years past there were Acrobat and PDF conferences that offered 90 minutes track sessions and pre and post all day courses in specific subjects including Acrobat JavaScript. Unfortunately, in the current economic climate the organizers have slowly dropped off and now there are none of these events being offered at all this year (that I know of). Adobe has their huge MAX conference but there are only a few sessions on Acrobat. You can check out what is on the schedule at http://max.adobe.com/ I think it is still a work in progress so things may change over the next couple months.

There are some companies that offer Acrobat training that include some coverage of basic scripting but none I know of are focused specifically on it. I presume they would be what you said you did not want- mostly coverage of using the Acrobat UI and built-in tools with only a smattering of scripting. Under the main menu "Resources" on this page check out the Training section for some references to companies that offer in-person instructor lead Acrobat courses.

Hope this helps,

Dimitri
