Hello,

Is this even possible to do, have spent hours searching through 2 or 3 of the forums with no luck.

Can I change, programatically, an text field to vary between being just a text box versus a comb field of say, 16 characters. The gist is this...if the form is to be filled in electronically, via the keyboard then there's no reason to have it be a comb field...but if it is to be printed and then handfilled in, then the comb fields should be there to provide some level of data entry constraint.

Ultimately, these forms/printouts get scanned in for OCR and/or barcode decoding.

Using LiveCycle Designer ES.

Thank you all.

Try the LC forum.
In an Acrobat form I would have suggested to create a print-only comb field under the actual field, or change the field's properties before and after printing.
