OCR Batch Processing

I have a large number of multiple PDF that are mostly image scans of documents. They were never recognized by any OCR program. Is it possible to batch process multiple pdf documents to do OCR in one sitting? It's so much more time consuming doing it document by document.

Thank you,

Paul

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 7.0.9, Windows

Hi paypaul,

Recognize Text Using OCR is one of the included commands in the list of Batch Sequences in Acrobat. Go to Batch Processing, create a New Sequence, select Edit Sequence, then click on the Select Commands button. Under the "Document" section scroll down and you'll see this option. Choose that command and click the Add button to add it to the right side panel of active commands to run in the batch sequence ( you can have more than one), click OK. Then you will need to choose the folder where the files are located that you want to run this batch on, plus a location to put the finished files, and click OK. To run the batch, choose Run Sequence in the next dialog and there you go.

Hope that helps,

Dimitri

There is no "Batch Processing Option in the Documents menu section? I'm using Acrobat Standard v 7.09 if that helps. Is this option not available in standard?

Hi Paul,

Sorry, you did not say what version of Acrobat you had. Batch Processing is only available in Acrobat Professional.

Hope that helps,

Dimitri

I'll add that, if you have an on-going project that requires you to do this, you will want to look at Adobe Acrobat Capture. It is a batch processing tool for doing this work that is designed to make this process easier and faster. The only caviat is that your documents need to start as TIFF files--not PDF.

I am a long-time Acrobat user, an employee of Adobe Systems, and Maine native. I have created training videos for Total Training, consulted with people to help them better use Acrobat, and developed new business for Adobe as a Business Development Manager

Paul, Dimitri, Tim,
I want to point out that I wasted a lot of time on the Capture product; It is important to note that it only creates version 1.3 PDF files, which are absent of needed security features... and far from version 1.7 PDF's which offer more options.

We need some other alternatives!
