Too Many Formulas?? Adobe keeps shutting down...

I am trying to create a form that uses a spreadsheet. It would be great to use Excel except it is a state form and I don't think I can legally recreate it in Excel. My second option was to create it in my Adobe 9.2 Standard as a form and use the Calculate tab to set up the formulas (adding certain fields, multiplying certain fields, etc.) I was able to set up the form, and even tested it. Upon testing I found an error in one of the formulas and tried to go back into edit the formula but as soon as I click the "Add or Edit Fields" button, Adobe shuts down. No error message or warning.

Any ideas what may be wrong or what I can do to correct the problem?

Have you tried to use a different editor than the default Acrobat JS editor?

No, I haven't. I am new at using this.
