Acro Pro 9 Create pdf from scanner unique issues

After searching 51 pages of PDF creation forum I have yet to find my exact issue.

I have XP Pro SP3 & all updates, I am always logged in as administrator, scanner is HP Officejet 7310 All-In-One and all updates, USB connected/recognized. I can scan into/print from every software I have available. I can even print from Acro Pro 9. The only problem is scanning a document to Acro Pro 9 to create a pdf. I recieve the following errors (no crashes/freezes):

*"Multiple scanner drivers detected, please choose another scanner"*
I click on the "ok" button option and "Configure Presets" opens (the options button is greyed out/unclickable)
I have 3 scanner options to choose from in the drop down list:
HP Officejet 7300 series Twain
HP Officejet 7300 series scanner
WIA-HP Officejet 7300 series

Choosing any of the above scanner options gives the following error:
*"Acrobat could not communicate with this device"*

I called Acrobat support, they directed me to HP, HP directed me to Acrobat; Acrobat inturn closed my case, and the online case I opened later. I have been searching hi & low for a fix.

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 9.1.1, Windows

Have you tried to create a new Windows Profile to see if this might be the problem?

I tried a new windows profile, as you suggested, and it worked! Thank you!
But, I desperately need it to work with the original profile I have been using; everything I need Acro Pro 9 for is in that original profile; not to mention ALL my settings, documents, etc. Is there a way to transfer ALL those settings, documents and things to the new working adminstrator profile (that allows the create pdf from scan)? What would cause the original administrator profile to be the problem, or become corrupt, when it works for everything but this paticular instance/application for Acro Pro 9? Is there a way to check for the actual corruption and it's location?
I want to learn from this experience, and gain knowledge for future use...thus all the questions.

AlwaysSomething,

I don't envy your position.

Fixes... start with a large hammer... then everything looks like a nail.

I would strart by running CCLEANER (www.ccleaner.com) - don't forget to backup the registry and reboot when done. Then perform a 'Detect and Repair' on Acrobat.

Next option. Uninstall all the HP software and Adobe Acrobat - reboot as needed. Again, run CCLEANER, reinstall the HP software then Acrobat (reboot as needed).

Second to last option - repeat the previous option, but manually scrub files and appropriate registry entries after running CCLEANER. Be careful here. This is like poking a balloon with some foul smelling liquid with a pointy stick. Sooner or later you will be a mess as your bubble is burst.

Last option - sort of the 'final resort' format the HDD and rebuild the sytem.

Where is this issue occuring? The interface created in the OS that allows Acrobat to link to the port that HP software creates. For some reason Acrobat perceives there to be more than one linkage to follow - getting Acrobat all flusterd and confused (if an application can be said to have such traits).

It is unknown if the linkage issue is on the HP side (too many links) or on the Acrobat side (perception of too many links). A lot of this has to do with the OS and it's inability to clean up after itself.

I hope this helps.

Sincerely,

Doug

I have a similar problem. 9.0 Pro, when I try to create a pdf from scanner, shows nothing in the "Please select a device" menu. My iMac is connected to an Epson 1240 scanner. I've installed the latest Twain drivers.

Acrobat 7.0 Pro sees the scanner just fine.

I'm computer-unsavvy... am I missing something obvious?
Thanks --

I am trying to figure this out as well. I have a computer that exhibits the same behavior, I changed to a different scanner and have the same issue even. That along with the the answer above about having to change profiles tells me that some configuration/registry entry is either corrupt or not setup right.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the APP and software, along with changing the scanner and that does not help. I will run a monitoring program on there to see if I can pinpoint where Adobe is looking for this info and why (although only one scanner is installed) it thinks there is multiple).

I also cannot find any reference to this on adobe's website. So it appears we are on our own, although our company owns over 20+ copies of acrobat.

I'll report here my findings. Since I googled and found this site, maybe if I can discover the cause, others can benefit. Since Adobe isn't going to fix it!

How do I know it is Adobe, because 3 other scanner software packages work just fine... it's just adobe Acrobat.

UPDATE: I have figured some "work-arounds" for those with the same user account/windows profile issues quoted above. IF "create pdf from scanner" DOES work with a "NEWLY created administrator user account" you have options. They have continued to work for me since that quote. Until something better comes along, less extensive, less time consuming, more definate; these options kept me working/going.

Option 1~(To send pdf to Original Adminstrative User Account where "create pdf from scan does NOT work) Log in on NEWLY created Administrative User Account, Open Acrobat, Create pdf from scan, Save document. Email the scanned/created/saved PDF from this NEW User Account to yourself in email, then switch users to the (possibly corrupt) administrative/main user account, check email, and save to Acrobat Pro 9. Now you can continue work on said document in original user account.

Option 2~(obtain saved pdf files from possibly corrupt original/main Administrator User Account where "create pdf from scanner" does NOT work)
Log in on NEWLY created Administrative User Account, Open Acrobat Pro 9, Click on "File", Click "Open", at the top "Look In Box" click "the arrow for drop down list", click "Hard drive or Local Drive", Click "Documents and Settings File", Click on the File Name (listed for the original/main adminstrative User), Click on "My Documents" and find the file you want to work on and/or save to NEW Adminstrative User Account if you plan on setting up shop on that account.
OR as in option 1, just email the documents to yourself and open in whichever log in profile works for you; after you have "created pdf from scan" in NEW profile/user account.

I've had this problem for some weeks and tried everything I could think of! Creating a new windows user has solved the problem...but surely this means it is an issue that Acobat should be looking to fix?
I never had a problem with Pro8 and I feel rather bitter that having upgraded to 9 I have to swap user names every time I want to create a pdf from my scanner; email it to myself etc.etc..

I am having the same problem like everyone else. I started experiencing the problem while using Acrobat 6 standard along with a Cannon IE30 flatbed scanner. I have a Dell D620 laptop running XP SP3. I could scan using the Adobe interface just fine for a couple of years and one day it just stopped working and gave me the "Adobe could not communicate with the device" error. I chalked this up to my scanner finally kicking the bucket, so I went out and bought a new HP C4480 All In One printer scanner.

Needless to say I am still having the communication issue with the new HP C4480 setup. I have since upgraded to Acrobat 9 Standard and problem is still not resolved. I created more problems for myself by trying to uninstall the printer / scanner software to reinstall since the new install of Acrobat 9. Now the HP software doesn't work correctly.

I am now using the solution from another members post by scanning using Acrobat 9 under a new user profile within Windows. Works like a charm, but I agree it would be nice to have this working in my existing profile to avoid the hassle of switching back and forth. I use a shared folder under my documents to save the scanned document and then access that same shared folder under my working user profile.

My suspicions are that there might be a Windows update that downloaded to cause this issue / conflict. How else could my old Acrobat 6 and Cannon scanner setup work one day and then not the next? Like others, I can scan just fine using other software, it's just Acrobat that doesn't work, but it does work in another user profile? I am anxious to see anyone can find a fix for this issue! If I find one on my own, I will definately post a reply again.
