Acrobat 9 not communicating with printer.

I have an HP F4200 series printer. I cannot get A9 Pro Extended to communicate with the scanner part of my HP Deskjet F4240 All-in-one printer.

1. In Acrobat 9 Pro Extended I select Document > Scan to PDF > Black & White Document.

2. A message window opens saying, "Multiple scanner drivers detected. Please choose a scanner".

3. I click OK.

4. In the Scanner drop down I see two items for the printer: HP Deskjet F4200 TWAIN and WIA-HP Deskjet F4200.

Not matter which one of the two I select I the message saying, "Acrobat could not communicate to this devise".

Anyone have similar problems?

StevenD

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro Extended 9.0, Windows

I forgot to mention that I am running all this on a Windows Vista machine.

If you haven't already done so, check if you have the latest drivers for your device from the manufacturer's website. Sometimes, rebooting the machine and/or scanner helps in such scenarios.

No I haven't checked for the latest drivers. The printer software has been notifiying me of updates to the software but I'm thinking now that that doesn't inlcude software drivers so I am going to check when I get home from work tonight.

I did turn the printer off and on a few times and also Acrobat to no avail.

I have the same problem or error message. I am using a HP 6110 on a windows xp platform with Acrobat 9 Standard.

So far I have reinstalled the software, rebooted the desktop and restarted the printer.

Can you scan from other applications besides Acrobat?

I am having the same problem.
Vista Home Premuim
Adobe 9.1.0
Canon Pixma MX860
Using Canon MP Navigator I can scan as a PDF. save and open with Adobe.
If I try to scan from Adobe, cannot connect.
Also Create > PDF from scanner > all options except Custom Scand and Configure Presets are greyed out.Custom Scan > Options >Show scanners native interface is grey out.Printing from Adobe is no problem. apparently only scanning.

Have checked for updates for both the Canon MX 860 and Adobe. None.

thanks for any help.

I'll repeat Lori's question - "Can you scan from other applications besides Acrobat?"

Another member who came across the message "Acrobat could not communicate to this device" found the issue to be related to Vista/compatibility. Check out their post for a possible resolution.

There is another post on the U2U forum that might help. In short, the user selected File, Create PDF, From Scanner, Configure Presets, and where the box states scanner, select the scanner that is attached to the computer (i.e., WIA-HP Deskjet F300).

Thank you for the response, but when I select a scanner, it says "could not communicate to device."

Does anyone have any idea why all of my other programs can scan from my scanner (brand new one, by the way, meant to work with vista), but acrobat 9 cannot?

Since my original post I pretty much gave up and haven't even tried to work with scanning into Acrobat directly again. Has anyone gotten this to work on either Vista or XP? I don't have a scanner hooked up to my computer except for the one in the big fancy laser printer and I tried to hook up to that but couldn't figure that one out either.

I have the same problem with a MAC and upgraded Acrobat 9 pro and my HP 1610 All-in-one printer. I was able to scan with my earlier version of Acrobat. Now when I try to scan it cannot connect to the device and then crashes. Any ideas from Mac folks?

Adobe Pro 9, that is loaded onto my wireless laptop, does not seem to recognize my Canon printer/scanner MP970. It tells me my printer/scanner does not support the presets. I run Adobe Standard 8 on my desktop and the SAME printer/scanner operates perfectly fine with that Adobe product. This leads me to believe there is a compatability issue between Adobe Pro 9 and my Canon but also, many printers/scanners as well, from reading the other posts.

The pairing seems to also affect Mac computers. My laptop is running Vista/Adobe Pro 9 and my desktop is running XP/Adobe Standard 8. Adobe 8 is the only product that is working properly with my Canon printer/scanner. Has to be a bug in Pro 9 somewhere.

This is very frustrating and I hope Adobe comes up with a solution.

Thank you.........

Is this the 32-bit or 64- bit version of Vista? Have you updated your Cannon driver for Vista recently?
