Acrobat 9.0 freezes when trying to create PDF from scanner

I have a new PC with Windows Vista 64 bit.

I have installed my printer scanner (Samsung SCX-4100) and Acrobat 9.0

I have configured the presets

Each time I try to create a PDf from the scanner, Acrobat immediately stops working and I get a box stating:
" Adobe Acrobat 9.0 has stopped working
A problem cause the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"

What do I do to correct the situation?

Ruth Hope

My Product Information:
Acrobat Standard 9.0, Windows

Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 was recently installed on new Vista 64bit computer and functions with all programs and even prints to my Dell 1600n printer, but when I try to scan from the printer, it causes this error message and shuts Acrobat down:

"ADOBE ACROBAT HAS STOPED WORKING A Problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

Also when attempting to use the create pdf from scanner not only does Adobe shut down, but the printer is given a command to print hundreds of lines of weird code of numbers hearts circles diamonds and clubs.

I went into presets and selected the computer after taking the tutorial online from adobe forums, and no change in the result.

Still no solution from Adobe and no response to an email that I sent to adobe support. It seems that a lot of people are having this problem.

Error "Acrobat 9.1 has stopped working" is the only response to a scan with Samsung CLX-3160FN PSC. This combination previously worked with XP. Cannot find a way to make compatible with Vista 64 OS.

Has anyone ever fixed this problem? I am having the same problem almost exactly (except that I have the SCX-4200).
Thus far I have gone through the following: kb403710, kb 408350, kb401589.
I have stripped out my old Acrobat 8.0 remnants. I have uninstalled and reinstalled 9.0. Twice. I have updated to 9.1.0
I have uninstalled and reinstalled and updated the samsung printer drivers, including the scanner driver.
I have also been online to Mumbai at least 20 times in the last 3 three weeks. No resolution. The last call said he was expediting my problem to his supervisors. Apparently I am supposed to get a dix within 48 hours. Of course that is what I have been promised before.

here's a suggested workaround: scan to another app (color material to photoshop [any version], save as PDF), or as TIFF to MS document imaging (comes with MS office). Also useful is Paper Port. Then with Acrobat create the PDF from the resulting files. Apply 'Reduce file size' on document menu.

Thanks for the workaround. In the time since my post I've begun this workaround: for scan work I use an older (XP) computer and the Samsung "ScanThru4" app to create .pdf files.

I do miss the functionality of Acrobat, though, and hope a real "fix" is forthcoming soon from Adobe for the Vista based platform.

I just downloaded the 9.2 version of Acrobat. It still crashes. So nothing yet.
Waiting to hear what happens with this in Win7

rbogie,

Worked perfect. Thank you for the workaround.

Kind of curious how this will all work on Windows 7 as well. I guess we'll all have to wait and see.

I have the same problem using Win 7 32bit and Acrobat Pro 9.2 when trying to scan with a Xerox DocuMate 510. What's odd is that it was working when I first built my new laptop with Win 7; I then had to rebuild and now it doesn't work. Very strange. if anyone gets an answer from Adobe or anywhere else please advise. I tried reinstalling Acrobat and booting in debugging mode and lots of other little things and nothing works. Really frustrating. I can scan with Win 7 Fax and Scan and with the demo of CutePDF so the scanner works. HELP!

I'm exactly in the boat as ruthhope..but the near same model . We have Dell Vista 32 bit and the Samsung SCX-4312F. I have had it successfully work...for quite awhile. Then for unknown reasons we get the "Acrobat has stopped Working.." dialogue box on File>Create PDF>PDF From Scanner>{any of the options - they all crash}. We got it back up and running by removing the scanner software and Adobe 9.0 and reloading. It has however re-occurred 2 more times (and is pooched right now). I've typically reloaded by putting the scanner softs in first, followed by Acro. Doesn't seem to matter if your on 9.0 or the latest 9.2. I've also seen different drivers / dialogue boxes after Win Updates has ID'd older software for the scanner and updated. Overall it's a pain to remove and reload every time. Work around of using other software does work... one thing you may try that I found this present round is, turn on the Scan to PC function (Samsung's software), set up the Front Panel Destination List to include Acrobat (and put it a top of list of available). Then insert your document to flat bed or doc feeder and press the "Scan To" button on the Samsung, and the start button if Acro shows up in the status display. Should scan and opens up Acrobat. If I ever find a fix or consistent "re-install/fix" method I will post. Rick

anybody ever get this resolved by adobe? seamlessly creating pdfs with my scanner (so i didnt have to use another clunky app) was half the reason i bought the damn program! from perusing this site and others, it looks like this problem has existed w/ prior versions of AA and vista / win 7. enough is enough, this problem needs to be resolved by adobe, right? anybody have any updates on this? thanks in advance!

In February, I upgraded to Windows 7 64 bit and installed Acrobat Pro 9. Previous laptop with Windows XP Tablet PC edition worked fine to create .pdf's directly from my Samsung SCX-4725 FN.
Acrobat Pro 9 crashes every time I try to create a .pdf from the scanner (same as comments above).
Recently, I found some historical discussion of this issue in Vista 64 bit, but with no resolution to date.
I've spent six months working around the issue with Scan-Thru software, which is a truly "clunky" app for the multipage documents I need Acrobat to manage. My experience to date: Many extra hours of initially uninstalling and reinstalling the Acrobat software and print/scan drivers; verifying the steps in painstaking detail repeatedly to multiple tech support rep's in Mumbai; extra hours (literally) creating scanned documents when mere minutes sufficed in XP. The latest round of requests is for event logs and other information (in some cases previously sent information) to provide to the mystical (or mythical) upper level tech support technician assigned to my case. Despite being "escalated" on multiple occasions , there is zero progress to date. The tech. support rep's are courteous and competent, but powerless to resolve the issue.
Please post if there is any insight on this problem.

I have Win7 64 bit and have the same problem. I just bought this software for this specific purpose. Very disappointing!

as observed by Medlock, absent a solution to the Vista/Win7 issue from Adobe or MS, a practical solution is to start with the scanner's interface and point the output to Acrobat. consult scanner's documentation and with scanner mfgr's help desk.

I've bought, been using and upgrading Acrobat since Version 3 and now after spending a lot of money, I'm starting to look for an alternative.

Any suggestions would be most welcome.
