Acrobat crash on network scan

We use a networked Ricoh copier/printer/fax/scanner to create PDF files using Acrobat 7. This has worked perfectly for years, but upon upgrading to Acrobat 9 we get a Data Execution Prevention warning when attempting to scan. The error appears directly after choosing Create > PDF from Scanner > Color/Grayscale/Black & White Document.

The Ricoh copier is a 3224C and we're using the latest Network TWAIN driver downloaded from Ricoh's Web site. The operating system is Windows XP SP3 with all updates.

Here is the full text of the error message:

Data Execution Prevention - Microsoft Windows
Name: Adobe Acrobat 9.2
Publisher: Adobe Systems Incorporated
"Data Execution Prevention helps protect against damage from viruses and other security threats. What should I do?"

Which sometimes leads to the following error message:

Adobe Acrobat 9.2 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Any help much appreciated!

My Product Information:
Acrobat Pro 9.2, Windows

I am seeing the exact same problem, except with a Ricoh Aficio 1022 using the Type1027 TWAIN v3 driver.

Ever find a solution?

I even added Acrobat 9.2 Pro as an exception in the DEP list, to no avail.

I know this is an Adobe problem because I can scan just fine using other applications (like Word).

No, still no solution!

You've reminded me that I really should get in touch with Ricoh Tech Support and see if they have any suggestions.

I just opened up a support case with Adobe.

I think it's an Adobe problem because I am able to use the driver in other applications just fine, but even selecting the device from the Adobe dialog causes Acrobat 9 to crash.

I'll update if I learn anything.

Found this forum, discussing the problem at length:

I tried the suggestion of disabling DEP completely (sucks, but works):

I have provided this info to Adobe and will hopefully hear from them soon with a better suggestion than disabling features.

Did you ever hear from Adobe?

I just purchased Acrobat 9.3 Pro. It worked fine for one day and now I get the same DEP error you described and it shuts down the software.

We get the same error here, I'll try disabling DEP completely - just to see if it works, but that's not going to be a solution for us.

Same here. Acrobat 9.3.3 on Windows 7. How can I disable DEP so that i can scan multiple pages from Acrobat?

I tried to turn off DEP for Acrobat.exe and Win 7 tells me that this is not allowed - the program MUST run with DEP enabled. Now I am stuck. What use is Adobe in getting this fixed?
