Advanced Editing tools are disabled

I created a PDF in version 8 and now that I've upgraded to version 9, I can no longer use the Select Text tool to edit some links in the document because the Tools/Advanced Editing tools are disabled (greyed out).

While tying to solve the problem, I noticed that the file was in "PDF/A" format. Using a suggestion from another post, I navigated to a "Preflight" tool that allowed me to remove PDF/A compatibility. This *partially* restored 3 of the tools, including the Touch up Text tool, Touch up Reading Order, and Touch up Object. Unfortunately, although the Touch up Text tool is no longer greyed out, it is completely NONFunctional.

Any advice would be appreciated. I'm using Windows XP SP3.

Thanks!
-Steve

Is there any security or Reader Rights Enabling on this document?

Have you tried saving as a copy, or running the optimizer?

No security. It is my own document too.

The problem actually cleared up on it's own. This happened after I migrated my admin user profile to another name after my profile was partially corrupted.

Thank you for your response though.

Very interesting! Are you on Vista? It's entirely possible that a corrupted user profile would block access to resource files Acrobat needed for various features.
