Anyone have experience creating PDF/E using Preflight?

Hi there,

I have a batch of regular PDF files that I'd like to batch process into PDF/E. I have Adobe Acrobat Pro Extended 9. Although I've experimented trying to get them to PDF/E using Preflight, I'm not quite sure on which settings to use. When I do checks on the new files to see whether they are PDF/E or not, I'm also a little skeptical whether the files I just made are actually PDF/E. Does anyone have any input on this? Thanks!

The specification for PDF/E-1 (ISO 24517-1) is relatively easy for Acrobat to impose on a PDF, and also easy to verify (compared for example to PDF/A). If you export to PDF/E from your application, or use Acrobat Preflight to convert, and the subsequent document verifies via the standards sidebar, then it is indeed compliant.

The series of checks run on the file when you press "Verify Conformance" in the standards sidebar are the same as those used in the Preflight profile.

One thing to note - a file can be both PDF/A and PDF/E at the same time. The standards sidebar can only show one profile (the last one applied) but checking via Preflight will reveal if the PDF passes both, and if you have PDF/A reading mode turned on, the blue header bar will appear.
