I need to automatically create bookmarks from a PDF that was created from Word 2003. I am using XP Pro SP3 and Acrobat X Pro. I currently have to manually create the bookmarks wasting time and money. Please Help! Note I am not a programmer:(

You'll want to configure the PDFMaker to support making PDF Bookmarks from Word headings/styles.
.
Acrobat X PDFMaker is shown as supporting Office 2003 so you should be able to do the configuration.
.
PDFMaker Compatibility matrix
.
On Word 2003's File - Edit - ... menu bar you ought to see "AdobePDF".
.
Select it. Click on "Change Conversion Settings".
.
--| Under the Settings tab, tick "Add Bookmarks to Adobe PDF".

--| Under the Bookmarks tab, tick "Convert Word Headings to Bookmarks".

If you want Word Styles to map to PDF Bookmarks then tick "Convert Word Styles to Bookmarks". In the window below there is the listing of headings and styles; tick the Style(s) desired and use the Level column to establish desired PDF Bookmark level/nesting.

A tick for "Convert Word Bookmarks" will provide PDF Bookmarks from those Word bookmarks that exist within a specific Word file. This feature is not available for Word bookmarks between different Word files.

I appreciate you quick reply! However, for some reason I do not have PDFWriter. How do I get it if reinstalling does not fix it?

Mark,
Something to try.
.
First, close all open applications. Open Acrobat. Perform a "repair" (under "Help"). Once this is done, restart the computer. Open Word to check if Adobe PDF is present on the menu. If not, check MS help re: how to enable Word 2003 add-ins.

Thanks for your post!

Here is what I had to do:

I do a repair but did not help.
I searched on Google and found the answer on Adobe website.

In a nutshell, in Word 2003 select Help > About Word > Disabled Items.Enable PDFWriter and restart Word.

Thanks for your participation:)
