Can I merge password-protected PDF files?

Could someone help me with the following question? Banks and financial institutions now all provide monthly statement in PDF formats. I would like to combine these monthly statements into yearly PDF document. But these PDF statements all have password security. Please let me know if there is a way to merge PDF files that are password protected (hopefully, the combined file remains password-protected)? If this topic had been discussed somewhere, please point me to that post. Thank you much.

Only if you can remove the password.

Alternatively you could print, scan to PDF and merge the scanned PDFs.

Yes, printing a hardcopy and re-scanning would be a workaround; but that defeats the whole purpose of paperless/saving-the-tree idea :-). I even tries using the PDF Printer to convert to a flat file, but could not get past the distiller's checking for valid password.
