Can you secure only PART of a PDF from editing in v.5?

I have Adobe Acrobat5.0

I would simply like to know if its possible to set only PART of the document I create [MS Word2000] with security measures?

I want end users to be able to add their own text only to one small section of the PDF document. The rest I want protected against cut/copy/paste/editing. BUT users still need to be able to print it with my original set specs.

Is this possible [with version 5 or higher]?

If not, what do I upgrade to or use?

[ps-I've literally spent hours reading through docs and FAQ's on the Adobe site to no avail. Only found that I should download LiveCycle as a trial, but at 2GB's, its too big for the hard drive. It cant be this hard, can it?]

In Acrobat 5 you can use Password security to set the following types of restrictions on a PDF: printing, inserting, deleting and rotating pages, filling in form fields, digitial sigs, commenting, and copying text, images, and other content.
However, if you want to create an area (form field) that allows users to input information while viewing your PDF in Adobe Reader, you'll probably want to investigate Acrobat 8 Pro. This versions allow you to Reader-enable forms, which means users with Reader can save the PDF with the form field data.
There is a 30-day trial version of the product available at:

In sarinasjunk's case using the Reader-enable-Comments function within Acrobat 7/8 Pro should also be considered since end-users (Reader 7/8) can always print the PDF with or without Comments, and since Comments always leaves the PDF untouched.
