I just installed Acrobat X Professional to replace Acrobat 7, but I cannot find the Adobe printer in the new program.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

If you're on Windows then the "Adobe PDF" virtual printer should be installed automatically, but you are advised to run the Acrobat installer as an administrator so it can make changes to the system services. Adobe Distiller, the manager front-end for the virtual printer, is a separate program on your Start Menu, and is not found on the Acrobat UI.

On Mac Snow Leopard, the virtual printer is no longer created for security reasons.

Many thanks. Running Distiller from Start installed the Adobe printer -- permanently, I hope -- and then I had to relearn not to print to a file. But since I do have administrative privileges on my computer, I don't understand why the printer was not installed with the program.

I have just upgraded from acrobat 8 to acrobat x pro. I do not have a printer for this though. I have uninstalled acrobat 8 and reinstalled the new version - now I have no acrobat pronter shoing up at all. I am on a mac os x version 10.5.8 and use CS3. I really need to have the printer. thanks
