combining 2 PDFs using distiller creates v1.6

Hi

I have Adobe standard v 7.x when I create a single PDF using Distiller it creates it to version 1.4 but if I try to combine 2 pdf files it creates the pdf to 1.6.

The standard.joboptions file that it looks to be using is set to 1.4, which is the version I require due to another project constraints.

Is this default behaviour or is there any way I can combine two files and get a version 1.4 PDF file.

thanks
Ron

What technique are you using to combine the 2 PDFs? If you're using the Combine feature in Acrobat 7 then the resulting files will be PDF v1.6 (Acrobat 7). If you need your PDF to be compatible with version 1.4 then you can use the Document --> Reduce File Size command in Acrobat to save to version 1.4. The PDF Optimizer (Acrobat Pro.) can also perform this functionality.
